A close knit group. Warm temperatures and they still enjoy the comforts of huddling. I still imagine it is instinct to them, since Luna and Noche were more than likely born in a tree cavity or at least a smaller space.
This nest box gives them room to stretch, flap and practice digging in the mulch as if they were digging in leaves and foraging. Wishful thinking or confirmed facts, these young owls have had a wonderful start to their lives.
Too cute.
Nighttime Approaches and at least two visits within 5 minutes.
Late afternoon visit. Owlets very active, will update tonight.
Lovely feathers.
What a view.. Also, owlets are lined up against the back wall.
Early percher this morning.
Similar photo posted earlier, but the detail in the feathers is amazing.
3 of 3. Close ups. Only a minute later, they were up and stretching, very active.
photo 2 of 3. Two of the three close up.
2 of 3. Close up.
1 of 3 close ups. Two out of three owlets. ohh I tried. They are too cute.
Gentle rest, yet always subject to change quickly.
A really good look at the down feathers and right leg. Luna’s down has heart shape patterns.
Read that the velvety down feathers found on owls’ wings and legs absorb sound frequencies above 2,000 hertz, making owls completely silent to their prey.
Here’s a good look at these feathers.
From left to right- youngest, middle, oldest. Another fantastic Day for the Barred’s.
Preening, resting, preening. Watched them when active with eyes open. Trying to get some face photos of each.
Another food drop, looks like frog.
Another visit, looks like frog.great.
Recent food drop., minutes ago.
Fantastic!!! Luna is that you… What a beautiful owl. The lighting couldn’t be any better. Actually I tried to lighten the image and it took away from the colors in her feathers.
Not so fortunate with the exit photo,.i imagine they put on the brakes when incoming and swift when taking off.
4 of 4. Tall stretch and after food drops they get very excited, what’s next…
3 of 4. Youngest eats, adult and sibling watched. Look at the facial details of the owlet.
2 of 4. Youngest steps up and takes food drop.
1 of 4. Great photos of food delivery. Youngest eating a grub/larvae.
A hot day, but turns out to be breezy looking at the trees and slight swaying. I am glad for them. Weatherbug, well.
