Barred Owls 2015 — 2,483 Comments

  1. Delivery finished, Luna cases the grounds for a brief moment and flies off. I imagine she is constantly searching for prey and what an advantage to look down from the nest box.

  2. As close as it’s gotten for now. Youngest wasn’t interested in food and isn’t as interested in staring out this morning. Preening and resting,it’s a very nice morning in the nest box. They are more active and less lying flat, the humidity may be lower. Will post weather soon.

  3. Grub or larvae, Still unable to find it online… moving on. Owlets are very active.

  4. Hunting from the perch view. Casing down on the ground and all around, then flying off after a food drop.

  5. I plan to find group shots of the three and post a sequence of there faces. Even when they were tiny white fuzzy balls, most times they each could be identified. Besides the size differences, their heads, beaks and eyes are slightly different.

  6. Tried for a few comments to not “describe” and post things as I see them. They truly are special owls. Beautiful, stunning, too cute, amazing, fun, feisty,…fantastic, wonderful, wonder filled, exciting and we folk holding our hopes very high, promising and very thankful to have this opportunity to watch.

Seeing them change so much the last two days, I am shifting to purpose, plan and promising.

  7. Feeding beak to beak, youngest did not eat. Watched and glanced around. but not interested in food.

  8. Taken today, (suspect) Luna and her owlets left to right, oldest, middle and youngest.

  9. Luna visited with a food drop, stayed a while. She is outside calling her owlets.

  10. Over the next few minutes, youngest displays his/her opinions.

Since hatching, they would occasionally react to sounds, even
before their eyes were opened. It has seemed to be expressing unhappiness about something. Today, tiny squeak sounds came from the young owl. When Luna left or when crows were cawing nearby is mainly when it would happen. Repeatedly opening and closing the beak.

Has it always been only the youngest? I’ve not seen any two doing it at the same time. A feisty warrior owlet.

  11. Barred’s have stunning eyes. Adult getting closer to flying off now, positioning the prime spot. Much as I tried, not one moment in time all four were looking at the same time.

  12. More preening. Interesting owlets may indeed be hungry, but they seem more interested in other things, like the outdoors. They have not yet experienced a blue sky. So many things ahead for them.
