  1. Fantastic!!! May be #2. Will double check, also notice youngest is pulling on siblings toe…

  2. 3 of 3. Young owls, enjoying a rest filled morning, when they are actually hungry and quite eager. Life is good for the Barred’s.

  3. 1 of 2. Different view about the same time frame.

Owlets were very active earlier, then they rest.
High energy and attempt to get up to perch, may be the adults are near and they knew this.

I imagine any adult’s visits now will encourage them to try again.

  4. What a wonderful sight. Perch is visible, imagine it won’t be long now…

  5. Nest box is picked over and the young owls are hungry.

Owlets are 29, 28 and 27 days old. They are very active.

  6. The Owls’ Eye
Owl’s eyes are the same size as human
eyes. Owls close their eyes mainly by lowering
the upper eyelid. They have a third eye lid, it is called
the nictitating membrane, it is in the inner corner of eye.
They have what is called semitransparent (this allows the owls to see thru when closed) This membrane keeps eye surface “watery”, free of dirt and protects against infection and scratches.

Look close at owlets eyes, you can see the nictitating membrane.

  7. A good view of the jaw. Easy to see how they can swallow prey whole, for example a mouse.

  8. Another great morning. A lot of preening this morning and food dropped off are less and less to encourage owlets outsie. Owlets were digging.
