1 of 2. Legs and feet.
Almost… so close.
For one brief moment, owlet made it to the perch. Almost set…
Owlet spreads out the wings, may be in an attempt to cool off and/or rest. Same in previous photo, first thought was resting, but it also may help to air out and cool off.
Oldest still has thoughts of the outdoors. Youngest preens oldest and middle owlet sits upright, resting wings.
Owlet’s feathers are really visible. At first glance, I thought Luna
was in the nest box.
Off Topic:
The two young owls at Cornell’s Indiana cam fledged yesterday.
According to the comments, when the young leave the nest they are flightless.
I have read that they will hop, use their beaks, talons and wings to climb trees. The adults will be very protective of them once they are out.
I will be afk temporarily and just KNOW they will do something spectacular. Watching one eye here… Oldest is hugging the prime spot, staring out, same as yesterday and in a second was perched.
Middle/#2 has quite an interest too. Time will tell but it seems #3 will be alone inside for a little while.
Seems they have rested and it’s activity time.
Another fantastic day. Plenty of leg room.
stretching legs and feet, talons are visible.
left to right, owlets 1, 3 and 2 sleeping.
A nice breeze is blowing and this time of year, shade and a breeze are quite good. Owlets are protected.
Weatherbug says 80.6° at Orville Todd Middle School, weather station for the area. Heading for about 87° 3-4pm and chance of showers and stormy weather is possible. Humidity averages around 50% for today.
3 of 3. Beautiful young owls.
These last few are all similar, but each one does something a bit different.
1 of 3. More from this morning.
3 of 3.
2 of 3. Warmer humid weather, they are being still, which does change in an instant.
1 of 3. Random owlet photos from this morning.
Feb 23rd and May 27th. Couldn’t resist.
At 9:28am adult flies by, visible from new cam view. Owlets react for a brief moment. Luna seems to have begun to lure them out.
Slim chance I’s catch that in a photo.
Fantastic! Getting cams ready for fledging. View from underneath the nest box.
Owlets #2 and #3 seem more interest than #3, the youngest owlet isn’t as interested as of yet.
Farthest left is #2, right #1 and back laying down is #3.
They may know she is nearby in the trees. 2 of 3.
