Every day they don’t fail to amaze.
As if on que, there goes the owlet digging and tossing mulch across the nest box.
Stretching out the legs and seemed playful. This was one minute prior to owlets standing and stretching out wings.
One owlet lays and scratches at the floor and with the overhead cam, I will try to catch it in a photo with both legs extended, kicking up mulch.
Photo is marked to show owlets position and action of a squat.
There was no tumble or loss of balance, owlet planned the action.
Then stood tall and upright.
Owlet stood, stretched and appeared to relieve itself into the shavings. Seen this a couple times recently.
Looks as if owlets squat and “go”.
They use their wings and squat down, wings extended then they stand upright. I will pick the best photo to Give a look at the behavior.
Third. Luna is close. Heard her arrive. But, unsure if owlet is curious about the cams or waiting for Luna. May be both.
Second. Too too cute. Owlet having a close look and note the owlet laying down is nearly invisible.
Series of fantastic photos: 1 of 3
Lovely owlet.
May 17. Luna has gone out and will try to catch her return, she may be hunting.
A fantastic day for the Barred’s.
From May 1st.
Photos are out of sequence but showing Luna’s tail and her three owlets. Two images without date and time stamp are from the fb video.
Thank you for the updates, very much appreciated seeing the other cam.
While Luna was still perched. A very efficient nest box.
During uploading, seems Luna flew out. Fantastic! cache of mice.
Luna perched, owlets as seen from overhead cam seen on fb page.
Three comical owlets. Life is good. Nest box looks cleaned. Luna and Noche are stable providers and each appears to be doing fabulously. They each stand, stumble, flap wings, peck and preen. They are doing very well self feeding. Occasionally swallowing an entire mouse, but at times it is a bit much.
The owlets make a sort of grunt hiss sound and use it when they are being preened and/or when an adult is nearby.
Last evening, I believe Noche delivered a frog and shredded it, feeding beak to beak. A change from new behavior of food drops and self feeding. He doesn’t coo or whistle, occasionally he will give a deep hoot, but I didn’t notice it.
Last evening, owlets react to adult arriving outside. A variety of food drops.
I realized Luna is perched, she whistle called. Owlet is adorable as ever. I will backtrack to last evening to add feeding updates. Since adult stayed in the nest box, shredded a frog and fed beak to beak.
Also noting there is a mosquito and a gnat flying around. The mosquito landed on the youngest owlets nose. It’s been making small attempts to catch it. Luna has grunted at the flies, they all seem annoyed at bugs.
Owlets were standing, stretching and a bit playful this morning.
Feeding photos of adult tearing apart a frog…later.
Fantastic! Youngest is behind.
Attempting mouse, better luck owlet, a little too much for now. A cache of food is good.

Gentle time.
