  2. An owl newbie. Can someone please post a credible site to learn about the barred owl.

    I haven’t been able to find egg laying information, such as will she lay multiple eggs in one day.

    Her positioning seems to indicate she may lay another egg (soon) Also she isn’t covering egg#1.

  3. Suspect prey or her own feathers? Brighter light and color, it appears she may have plucked her own feathers OR its suspect prey.

    She was digging in the nest, lifted her head and had fuzz on her beak.
    Unsure, was she tugging at her own feathers or prey?

    I am sure that is one amazing egg.

  4. 9:54am Heavier rain is coming down.

    Female has plenty of prey, a dry nest with egg. Life is Good.

    Anticipation of the arrival of the male with prey.
    She has plenty, but I imagine now she won’t be leaving the nest as often.

    Will she produce one egg per day? Consecutive days?

  7. Now that she is on an egg, she is rotating her head, looking around without moving her body. This is so fascinating! Thanks for allowing us to watch.

  8. She circled a few times earlier, behavior was a little different.

    9:04am Got a brief 2nd glimpse of egg. She gently rolled egg possibly onto her feet. She’s settling in.

    A beautiful white egg arrived minutes ago.

  11. 8:15am She is staring down and looking around. Prey in front of her and behind her.

    She is very active, circling.

    8:21am someone is outside, heard brief claw sounds. lol. The wrens are back.

    8:23am Bluejays return. They are loud n nearby. I hear claws on or near the box. Someone was harassing her. First time I saw her react to another bird. But, it/they were on or very close to the box, basing that on the sounds.

  12. 8:01am Bluejays stop by again this morning to visit. Owl stares up chatters her beak but doesn’t react in any way.

  13. 7:58am Color cam on. Appears she has prey. She started digging and when lifting her head, her beak had grayish fuzzies on it.

    I have to say that putting the cam near the perch/entrance was the best. She looks up and outside, which is in direct line of the camera.

  15. 7:04am Appears she’s resting well, upright and inside. She stays so still as a picture. If you look close you can see her breathing and the clock ticking away.

    7:09 She opens here eyes, listens for a second, closed her eyes and she didn’t move.

    Female had a fantastic day. Sunning, resting. Her calling n soft whistling coos were so beautiful.

    Twice I had heard them here, never saw one, but now I am keeping an ear out.

  23. Lynn, It was. I love the barred owl. For 30+ years I have been fortunate to have them in the woods right behind the house. One morning went out with the dog, looked up and there was one sitting on a lower branch of a tree right in my back yard a few yds in front of me. It sat there for a minute or two and then flew off.
