  1. Hi Fran,

She was making those cooing sounds this morning also. Beautiful, soft sounds.

What a lovely owl and a great Live camera.

  2. After a long Siesta, she hops up onto the perch at 3:26 pm. At 3:31 pm she triggers the IR cam. She starts to coo at 3:37 pm. ( very soft, almost sounds like a Dove) Maybe a call to her mate.

  3. 9:55am whistling/call. A longer call with variations of up to 8 notes. Not loud by any means, a soft pretty sound.

  4. 9:45am she made a cooing/whistling sound.
    9:47am repeated.
    9:48am repeated.
    9:49am repeated.
    9:50am repeated
Almost whistled. As if a question, pitch goes up, one note.

Sounds beautiful. She continues to repeat. I added times to see if there is a pattern perhaps.

  5. 8:37am Bluejays, wren and chickadee are close. Owl is still.

My cat is on alert, lol. She’s listening. Sorry, it is too cute not to share it.

  6. 8:27am Quite a different day. Yesterdays high winds, Today, many birds are chirping. Bluejays seem to come in close to the owl as there callings were loud. Her tail gave no indication she was even a little intimidated. But, she’s very still as usual.

Must feel good, the bright sun shining on her.

I now understand the importance of facing nest boxes towards the sun. So many things I’ve never thought about before.

  7. 6:39am. Perched in entrance way.

8:02am She’s still there. Color cam is on and trying to stay.

  8. Hi Everyone,
Carol, (OnEagleWings)has started a new thread for the Barred Owl on raptorresource.org called Barred Owl Box, Wappingers, New York 2014 Season. She has some really great screen shots of the Barred Owl posted there for anyone interested in viewing and commenting on.

  9. 10:09pm Who cooks for you?!! I wonder is she waiting food drop from the male? Or is this just what she will do.

She seemingly enjoyed the sunshine and the box provided shelter from those winds today. A fantastic day in the barred owl nest box.

  10. 8:55pm sounded like she seemed off balance for a second. Shortly after, she enters box. Stretched her wings, awesome. Closed her eyes
tight, that fast, she’s perched again.

  11. Zoom out, nice fluff in nest.

I was afk for a few hours. She is on perch (still?) since 2:08pm?

Does she hunt still or is she awaiting a food drop from her mate?

  12. About 4 hours now she’s been perched in the entrance way. A quiet day, except for the howling winds. Seems she rested well and enjoyed the sun quite a bit.

  13. 3:56pm This time yesterday she had a chipmunk/prey inside the box and was shredding it.

  14. 2:52pm abt… she shifted down a bit and the color cam came back, as she shifted once more, went back to IR.
