Barred Owls 2015 — 2,483 Comments

  1. Cam view is changed a little, another great view. The sun is coming around and Luna looks gorgeous as ever. Life is Good.

I didn’t catch a food drop or see the eggs since last night, I too was tired.

    Ah, the wrens are back.

  2. About 11:55pm Luna exited the nest box, but by the sounds of it, she
    may be on the perch.

  3. Eggs rolled 11:21pm. Luna is resting well. Noche will reward her soon… hopefully.

    What a day for Luna!

  4. She’s back! Color cam just came on. Egg Watch!

One of the heart shaped patterns that run along her soft white feathers is visible at the tip of her tail.

I have seen her tail up high and assumed it was a sign of labor.
Chewing, gnawing, tail up high, hints an egg may be coming, things to look for once again. If she lays down… be on the lookout!

  5. One egg surrounded by warm down feathers.
Luna has been gone from inside the nest box 20 minutes now.

    Egg watch continues!

  6. Looked like she was working up to egg #2. Tail up, she even laid nearly down down for a bit. Not so, not yet!

If memory serves me well, she left about 5:05pm. Missed her return. Then she left at 7:19pm.

  7. EGG WATCH! It has been two days ago the egg arrived, will it be the only egg or is it the first?

First egg, Luna rotated her body frequently, foot stomping and her tail was lifted high. She was chattering. When it was soon time, she laid down and tucked her head.

    Be on the lookout!

  8. Will she have a second egg? It’s been two days now. Looking for signs.

She’s pecked at her foot, she’s preened her tail area briefly…
fluffing a lot, but that can be regulating her body temp I imagine.

  9. Quiet morning it seems. Luna is peaking out, the downy feather is gone from the cam view. I missed her return last night. She flew off and may have taken prey and was gone from the box a good while.

  10. About 9:10pm Luna flew in with prey. She stayed a few minutes and flew off. Unsure if she took it with her, the colors are blending together.

The egg looks good, the down feather is still upright.

(Photos were out of order, this should fix them)

  12. Did Luna catch a pesky wren from the perch? Maybe something, may be nothing…abt 4:36pm she jumped up quick and seemed there was squirming and chewing and it continues.

When she jumped up a brood feather stood up in the breeze and triggers the IR cam.

  13. No changes I can see. What a beautiful sight, right.
Waiting for her Noche to deliver a food drop, wonder, did I miss it?

  14. A new day and Luna is taking good care. Things changed so much for her since yesterday morning!

  15. 7:47am Luna continues to remove more feathers. She preens and they just fall away. Color cam is now on.

  16. Prior to settling in, she gently circled and glanced at her egg.
as seen in the previous 11:54 photo. The photo from 11:28pm with her head lowered was the arrival of the egg.

Luna’s current status, appears to be content.

  17. Time was 11:27-11:29pm when Luna appears even more beautiful than ever.
She lowered her head, she hooted soft and her first egg arrived.
