  3. Hi everyone. We had a surprise visit last night around 7 PM. It does not appear to be Luna. It looks like a younger owl (maybe Sol?). What do you think?

  4. Sol’s hatch date, four months ago today! Summer ends unofficially today. After the leaves fall, maybe we will get news of the Barred’s.

  8. Sorry it has taken so long for me to get back to everyone. I just wanted to let everyone know what we know. The last time we saw Sol and family was about a week ago. Luna and Noche were being very good parents by protecting and feeding Sol. It has been very quiet lately and we have not seen or heard them. I take a walk through the woods when I can so I hope to see them soon. Sol was managing with his leg and I hope we will catch a glimpse of him next year. If anything major happens between now and next season we will let you know. Now that we know they have chosen the box we look forward to adding more cameras next year. We hope to have 2 interior views to compensate for Luna if she decides to lay next to the lower cam. We will also relocate the exterior cam to provide a closer view. Thank you for everyone who supported us this year. I knew that this project could be tough at times but I didn’t expect it the first year. Let us hope next year is less stressful. As long as the owls come back so will we. We look forward to seeing you all next year. Goodnight and good luck.

  12. From myself to the others here on the Chimneyswifts/Barred owls page, patience has been and remains a virtue. I am proud of our fellowship and contributions. Especially, to those who are new to posting and wanted to share a comment and/or photo. So fortunate for us, that we were given such a place to share in our interests of these owls.

    High hopes owlet is doing what owlets do, albeit, Sol has to adapt and that takes time.
    To coin a phrase, No news is good news.

  13. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful event with all of us. It is an experience I will never forget. I hope to see Luna & Noche bring us more beautiful owlets in the future. I am glad Sol’s leg seems to be getting stronger. Thank you again for all your time & effort you put in to this.

  14. Thank you so much for the update. I think I have been checking in every hour for news. Just to imagine Sol and his parents enjoying the woods together is enough. I am so happy for all three of the owls and their extended family. Good job, all.

  15. Sol is out of the box and safe, adults are being very protective, owlet is “heavily guarded” that’s the trusted word! Sol, out in nature, dirt and leaves between the toes, hopefully doing what owlets do.

    Safety of the owls and humans is vital, so we await news.

  16. Congratulations to Sol, Luna and Noche – wonderful to see the little one outside. I remember watching Sol hatch out of the egg, and now here we are out of the “big egg”. So glad for all.

    I would like to thank you for allowing us into the world of Barred Owls that we wouldn’t otherwise get to witness. Please know that your time and investment has not gone un-noticed. We’ve all grown very fond of sweet little Sol and parents, Luna and Noche. I’ve learned so much from viewing this cam and hope that we will again get to see Luna and Noche raise another brood next year. Again we are grateful for the opportunity to witness the lives of these amazing owls.

    As Admin, techie, cam op who dedicates so much time and effort to bring us these cams, thank you. Along with Andrew and family, you all have had a fantastic event occur in a NY nestbox. Sharing it with us viewers, you can see the rewards of a job well done and how fortunate are we to sit back in our cozy chars and enjoy it all, or having a look during a college graduation. Wherever any one of us may be and have the ability to watch the cams is reason to say thanks. The efforts taken, climbing ladders, adjusting wires, fixing glitches, human characters and all. Foremost, Thank you for your effort and time setting up barred owls cams with two fantastic views 24/7.

    Adding an interesting factoid that hopefully you will find amusing.
    From the beginning, back in the 1820’s, field glasses and telescopes were used by birdwatchers.. Look how far we have come in just under 200 years. The interest has gone from birdwatching to high def cams that enable folk from all
    walks of life to observe and learn.

    Photography made it possible to document birds in the field with great accuracy. High power spotting scopes allow observers to detect the smallest differences that were earlier possible only by examination. Your technical expertise allows us to follow behaviors that would be a mystery and unseen by human eyes. A tribute in writing to a guy who is straight to the point and remains unwavering in his dedication to these owls. Thank You. Trust the gizzard.

  21. Andrew, to you and yours,

    As homeowners, congratulations and thank you’s are in order. What a fantastic Opening Season on nesting barred owls on your land.
    A beautiful property, enjoyed the transitioning from winter to spring, as Luna brooded her eggs and Noche would visit her with food drops.

    Ahhh, these Barred Owls~ prospecting, egg laying, brooding, hatching, feeding, food drops, stunning feathers, striking eyes, wing flaps, self feeding up to the last time we lay eyes on them, has been gratifying and rewarding.
    May it be, that I will never see a Barred Owl that I am not reminded of these beautiful owls. Luna and Noche are at the forefront of preparing for the future, protecting there Sol.

    It has been heartwarming, at times downhearted pangs. But, mighty Sol, with highest of hopes from many, has achieved a great feat, the perch, that feisty owlet is too cute.

    Again, your kind words are very appreciated. This is in response to a comment you posted earlier.
    Finding the Tri-State BV cam was one of the most gratifying and captivating online experiences one could have.
    Had become so attached to the Black Vultures of DE and now the Barred Owls of NY. Back in March, you suggested that I keep an eye out for a new and upcoming Barred Owl cam that has promising expectations.
    Can’t thank you enough.

    Your outstanding generosity towards techs, cam ops, homeowners and the viewing public, myself included, has been admirable. Your contribution to our communities and beyond deserves honor and respect. The least I could do was to be observant, “hawk-eyed” and comment with the best of my abilities, albeit, through an untrained eye. So fortunate, I had time to enjoy the Black Vulture Cam and the Barred Owl Cams. Also, had time to share the day to day activities with others, which I really enjoy.

    Cams brought to us by Tri-State, available for viewing 24/7. The good name of such a decent organization as Tri-State is represented by your actions and that of admin/cam techs, cam ops and the Tri-State medical staff and consultants who have been following Sol’s condition, throughout there already extremely busy days and nights. High hopes owlet Sol manages to defy all odds. That owlet is too cute.

  23. Thank you soooo much for allowing us to view the lives of the beautiful creatures! I am so sorry that you are having trouble with some posters! I do so pray that you will continue to share this site with the ones that truely appreciate what you have given to us! My sister and niece and myself are praying for little sol! Please post and let us know about him! Believe me, we do understand your position in this situation! Thank you for your generosity!
