1. Hi all,

   I need to address a few issues. As some of you may know I am the owner of the property where Luna and family reside. As of late comments have been posted on another forum about the practices we have chosen to follow in regards to Sol. I thought that this wouldnt be an issue anymore due to the statement left by Bob from Tristate. Unfortunately this is not the case. Mainly one person has brought it upon herself to make my family friends and myself look like heartless uncaring people. There is more to the story than is being told but I am not one to be drawn into childish games so I will leave it at that. My main focus is and always will be the owls. This project is not something on a infomercial where you set and forget. To provide everyone with a “birds eye view” of Luna and family takes a lot of time and resources on the part of everyone involved. Part of that time includes research and consultations with experts. Experts such as ornithologists and vets that deal directly with cases such as Sol’s. Claims have been made that our inaction is cruel but it is quite the contrary. From the many experts that have been consulted the consensus is the same. Any action on our part at this statge in Sol’s life would most likely result in him/her being euthanized. If we were to take Sol and attempt to treat him/her to find out nothing can be done then he/she will be euthanized. If they can treat the issue the time away from the wild may result in the inability to return him/her to the wild. In this case if there isn’t a proper facility to take Sol then he/she will be euthanized. I care deeply for Sol and it pains me to watch at times but in the end I have to look at best overall outcome. There is a chance and I emphasize chance that Sol may be able to live with his/her condition if we leave him/her be, so that is what we will do. I am an avid outdoors man and I have seen many amazing things when it comes to the resilience of nature. We are all hoping for the best but realize there may come a time when the benifit no longer outweighs the risk. We are not there yet so we will carry on our current course. I hope this allows some of you to understand the thought process and realize we aren’t looking through rose colored glasses. Lastly I do this because I love it and I want to share that with every like minded person on here. I have to say I am very disappointed with some of the comments that have been made and the actions of mainly one person. I haven’t lost sight of whats important here but I feel that some may have. Please take yourself out of the equation and rethink what you are doing. This recent experiance has tainted the original intent of the project and that is unacceptable. If it continues my friends and family will choose not to continue airing to the public and enjoy Luna and family on our own. I don’t mean that to be a threat it is only the truth. Thank you for your time and understanding.

9. A happy musing gaze from a grateful viewer. The reverie of it all and thanks to everyone involved who have given us an incredible look into the lives of the NY Barred Owls.

   It is extremely fascinating, lighthearted and in it’s depths, there is so much more. What a privilege for us. Thanks to you all for your hard work, caring and sharing.

10. Did not see any evidence that Sol wasn’t successful swallowing the mouse last night, that is great. Will be looking for a pellet this morning.

    Managed to get a photo of Sol’s first mouse pellet, but missed the actual event by a minute. Social streamers commented on it. Sol was a bit frightened and unsure what just happened. Looks as if that would take some getting used to. A first for everything, one more thing checked off the list. What will today bring? So far, it’s another extremely good morning.

11. Stretching right leg, flexing toes. Preening continues.

    

12. Sunbeams into the nest box touch Sol’s back. Sol is 34 days old today. Won’t be too many more mornings lying with Luna in the nest box.

14. Beautiful morning, 100% humidity, heading to 80° today.

15. As Luna begins preening, Sol braces its right leg against Luna’s left leg.

    

16. Captures from an extended preening session this morning. Begins with Luna getting herself into position.

    

17. Morning to night, Sol changes everyday. This is Sol.

    

18. Sol is content. Resting now. All hints that suggest Sol swallowed the mouse. Would like to say I saw it happen, even still, it’s been an extremely good day today.

19. Another surprise, Sol pecked at prey feathers, not interested, chewed on bark, not interested, digs and pulls out a mouse. Then owlet tried to swallow it, no go, second attempt, had back to the cam. May have gotten it down, but seemed to go fast.

    

20. Quick stretch, didn’t get far, but got height. Must feel good to stretch. Shadows and a bit blurry from movement, other than that a great activity.

    

21. Just noticed, the last photo from 7:47pm Sol is developing the inherited characteristic shape to his/her head.

22. Taking it in strides today. Excellent.

    

23. At 6:44pm and 6:51pm Sol stood on both legs, getting around so much better, everyday an improvement. TY aklsarratt from the SS.

    Owlet is safe, well fed and knows he/she was born to fly. High hopes Mighty Sol. Eye on the sky, owlet wants out and the adults have begun coaxing. A Fantastic day for the owls once again.

24. it’s now 6:26apm and Sol sits mesmerized like a statue with feathers and shavings stuck on the beak. What do you see Sol? Oh eyes blinked.

    

25. Look now, here is owlet Sol, laying where Luna first laid and the guardians are still there.
