Since the beginning of this amazing journey, when the owls chose this nest box, I have been watching the guardian spiders on the wall.

More limbering up, preening, followed by rest. Great exercise for Sol.
Earlier this morning, Sol was preening thoroughly. Too cute to not share, also showing Sol is becoming more limber and flexible. Preening while laying down. lol
Different cam view, sure glad to see those wiggling toes up in the top center.
An owl’s eye view. Pretty. I want to sit quietly, back up against one of those trees, see Luna and Noche sunning in the trees and carrying prey to Sol. Looking at this photo, I’m practically there!

Beautiful June afternoon, light rain. Getting some new views! Thanks much.
The sense of wonder they have at this age. Still fortunate to possess childlike innocence, but the longing to be outside is definitely there, much more than just a curiosity now.
The many expressions of Sol. Watching flies buzz by, watching ants crawling, as in this photo.
This is a million dollar face. Sweet.
Flexibility at it’s finest. Sol is gaining mobility. Spun head around and preened his/er own leg and hind/hip area.
Recent activities, stares in the corner, pecks at a feather, chatters the beak, staring outside, blinks eyes one at a time, then rests.
A shout out to Orville Todd Middle School and local weather station of the area. Not many days left for classes.
Currently 74° heading for 82. A nice day in the nest box area, not weather stressed by high temps.
Sol rests, although when owlet turns the head, eyes are open. Have a feeling he/she is listening and honing in on his/her amazing hearing capability, awaiting the adults and food.
Sun shine flickers on Sol’s face. Owlet spins the head around and preens. Stares at a flying insect, stares at ants, curious. Then, the head slowly lowers, eyes closed… no photo, no new or different events or activities to record.
The one true cause. Luna dedicates her life to her owlet Sol. Time is ticking and although she is not currently in the nest box, she is surely close by.
Resting well n good, then it happened, the wren returns! Sol chatters the beak in disapproval, what personality!
Sol is 33 days old today. This photo is a few days old, but kept it in the back of my mind to share it. Simply touching is all. Not the sharpest photo, but there is something about it, I had to post it.

Didn’t have exterior cam and could not see if Sol was responding here to parent on the box. Possible, but no proof.

Luna or Noche visited the nest at 5:39am. Thanks to wildflowergal for the information. Fed Sol a mouse then left. I will ask the night owls of the Social Stream to comment on how many are in the nest box in the wee hours of the night. Lately, I’m usually leaving here at 1:00am and Luna isn’t in the nest box. Surely, she is very close by. Seems another phase of Sol’s development is happening.
This morning Sol has been in a new sleeping position, that he/she may have acquired from Luna, lol. Too cute.

After close observation of the photos posted yesterday, while both of the adults both visible on exterior cam, I noticed something. The feather patterns weren’t matching up with my comments.
The last couple days both adults have been in the nest box. Assuming an owl in the trees is Noche, is no longer a “given”. Assuming an owl perched is Luna is no longer a “given” either.
Noche’s wing feathers appear much darker when he is perched. His head seems to have a different shape.
Did look over the previous photos of the two adults and decided I wanted to mention my findings.
Adult was outside calling, the familiar sound Luna uses frequently from inside the nest box.
They are carrying off food, hooting and calling from outside.
Approaching 1:00am and Sol is alone, self preening and napping in between.

Couldn’t help it, extreme close-up.
At this point, will say “adult” returned again and entered the box, grabbed a suspect chipmunk and flew off with it. They each have been in and out of the nest box. Life lessons… Single note hoots now.

Feeding time, Sol was more subdued, not as enthusiastic as usual. Noche?
Another interesting event. Appears both adults arrived at the nest box. One enters, one is on the perch and actually tossed the prey inside. Missed the in-between due to off air. Laughed thinking what will Sol do? When cam came on, surprised, an adult was in the nest box and only seconds prior one flew away. I believe this may be Luna on the perch, since interior cam adult has different feather pattern and different feeding technique.
