Barred Owls 2015 — 2,483 Comments

1. Attempt number one, first mouse I saw Sol swallow whole, took three tries. Luna sits on the perch, sunning herself. Beautiful owls.

   

2. Utter contentment this morning. So nice to see.

   

3. And then proceeded to preen him
   They look so blissful!

   

4. Luna fed Sol some mouse!

   

5. This is one of about three amazing wing flaps by Sol. I couldn’t get a good capture because the camera kept going off and I was so enthralled I couldn’t get my fingers to work fast enough. Wondering if Luna returned during the day. Last saw her as posted at 10:15 A.M. Sol must be hungry.

   

6. An early afternoon nap. Do not believe that Luna has returned with a meal for Sol. As noted, she left the box at 10:08 A.M. but perched outside the box for several minutes. See earlier posts.

   

7. Glorious, glorious sun.

   

8. Exquisite in the sunlight.

   

9. Sol continues to look up at perch where he last saw Luna. Sunlit aura highlights the lovely soft downy feathers.

   

10. Luna flies off into what looks like a glorious Spring morning. Lovely patterns of light and dark in Andrew’s woods, and Luna is a silent blur on the wing. Magnificent.

    

11. Sol looks up at perching Mom.

    

12. Luna posed for several minutes on her perch, from 10:08 until 10:15 A.M.

    

13. In that lovely land of unclouded days!!!

    

14. Remember when? From about one week to one month. Too cute!

    

15. Luna preened Sol, owlet was flapping and hopping around. So fascinated with the outdoors.

    

16. Owlet Sol is one month old today!

    There is the reward and what a gift. Gratitude and appreciation for your kindness to these beautiful owls and sharing them with us. What a learning experience and may it continue for years with health and wealth.

18. Just too sleepy.

    

19. Sleepy, waiting for Luna, and, oh, flexing the little toes with the big talons.

    

20. Not a very clear picture, but I think we get the gist here.

    

21. Sol continues its efforts to stand up. I thought the little one almost made it here. Very relieved the egg is gone. Now Sol has more room to move around in without hindrance.

    

22. Andrew, thank you so much for sharing the lovely photos of Luna. How fortunate you are to be able to walk through your woods and actually see and feel what we can only imagine. You have brought us as close as possible to that experience by allowing for the live streaming of Luna’s nest box and immediate surroundings. Forever grateful to you and your wife for your generosity and for your love of Owls which make this possible.

23. Shell- commented in Social Stream that Sol stood up on both legs, third day in a row now. I didn’t see it, but hope cam op can verify it.
