Luna watching over Sol
In the wee hours following a squirrel drop. Sol was circling getting good exercise and dragging the squirrel around, made a couple attempts to self feed, didn’t go according to owlet’s plan, but dragged it for a good while, too cute.
53° heading down to 50. Sol seems to be thermoregulating. Too cute! Everyday more exciting new events happen. I saw owlet do this earlier and after shifting, got to see the legs and Sol is on his toes at least of the left leg. That will make the legs strong real fast.
Another Fantastic Day for the Barred Owls of NY.
Suspect Squirrel? Sol had been pecking at it and now it is out of view!
Food drop, Stood over top Sol, didn’t feed, but left a nice size prey. Thinking it was possibly Noche. How does one catch a squirrel in the dark, amazing.
Two days in a row, getting around better! Brilliant!!!
Luna had just left a few minutes before this photo. Now that they have moved back we get a good sense of the size of the nest box. Also, we see Sol, being too cute.
She has been gone nearly three hours now. Wonder is she in a nearby tree? Heard hoots far off at least one hour ago.
Earlier today, Luna was thoroughly enjoying the day. Another view of her pretty feather patterns.
Luna. Well, the sizes are quite large. If this is a problem, I understand removing them, but you can surely see the different patterns now.
Split up the photos, easier to spot the different patterns.

Trying to add side-by-side for comparison if this doesn’t work, will start over! Seems to have worked, but the patterns are smaller.
Noche is on the left, entered the nest box, stayed a couple minutes, he did return within the hour, did not see food drop.
Luna on the right, soon after he left, she followed.

Sol is expressing his/her opinion.
Second day now, Noche visits inside the nest box with Luna and Sol.
Owlets opinion is still a bit uncertain and leery.
Sol was watching his/her own foot picking up shavings and also
upchucked a pellet and got startled by it.
Everyday, so many wonderful things are happening.
At least three of us were hearing a “galloping” sound when Luna was outside. Sol’s eyes were closed and listening. Seemed to calm the owlet. Someone commented that a while later she did it again and Sol was listening intently.
Looking at photos from that time , it may have been about 4:10pm. Didn’t write it down.
Luna is enjoying her day on the perch, looks perplexed at times, mechanical beasts are in the area and she watches. Beautiful owl!
She’s been there at least one hour, that I know of..
Shaded by Luna. Getting stronger, hops and jumps trying to get on two feet. More wood chips are helping.

Sol changes so much everyday now. Getting good turning motion of the neck and head. Too cute when the head goes around while the body stands still.
