Recognizing this look, may be working on a pellet. Beautiful feathers!
Luna continues to preen the right leg/hip area today. Sol has been resting a lot, although I did see some great wing flaps and a couple great attempts to stand, high hopes it continues more and more frequently!
Another photo from yesterday, closer look, used arrows to point out Sol’s jaw/beak. Owlet grabbed the tiny prey (suspect mouse) and tried to get it down, unsuccessful, tried again, no go, then, next try got the prey lined up and in a few gulps, it was down, gone. Not easy getting a sharper image, Sol was moving a lot. So, exciting!
This is the cropped version of the previous posted photo of Luna sitting in a tree from May 13th, in an attempt to show the IR/evening one and the daylight photo to compare. Luna was returning to Sol. My guess, that is Luna in the IR photo.
Cropped the previous posted photo, in an attempt to match the IR/evening one with the daylight photo. Luna was returning to Sol.
Adding this one from yesterday, beautiful clear photo. Tail feathers are visible inside the box as adult is perched.
IR glow of eyes in the tree, I’d say Luna. Posted a color photo of her May 13th, sitting in that spot or very close to it.
8:08am. Currently, very still and quiet morning, but I only arrived at 7am and may have missed the live action and now it’s rest time…
60° in the nest area, heading to 74. Chance of rain and scattered showers kind of a day.
But, mighty Sol did stand on two feet today AND ate a whole mouse!!!
Noche or Luna?
Sol continues to be left on its own more and more. A lovely thick, warm coat protects the little one.
And, suddenly exhausted.
Working so hard.
Correction: Sequence beginning at 8:43 P.M. Sol continues to make very valiant efforts to stand up. Such a determined sweet, little one.
Another view.
Some touching moments with Sol this evening as little one waits for Luna’s return. Sequence begins at 8:44 P.M.
Noche possibly?
Appeared to be Noche gave the prey to Sol.
manteling tiny owlet size prey.
One adult was inside, one on the perch. Adult had hard time getting out past the perched one. Beautiful. They brought a very tiny prey for Sol…
Third time is the charm, it went down, all the way!
Both adults were at the nest box.
Another major milestone, swallowed a whole mouse.
Some hip preening and Sol is getting so close to standing up again.
Preening, messaging the hip area again. Posting it now, since Sol stood up today!
Looking energetic.
Noche is a dutiful mate and unwavering provider to his Luna and owlet Sol. After last posting, felt he was slighted by my comment, now corrected.
