Large cache in the corner, bunny and more. Different expressions of Sol. Egg is moved once again.
Sol is alert, curious as ever about everything.
Sol has been opening and closing the eyes one at a time, finally captured it. Feathery lashes too.
Last photo for now, a real treat, Sol is alone, wondering about things… a sharp color cam view. In this photo, Luna was moving around on the perch, casting a shadows on those beautiful feathers.
Sol is staring up at Luna. Facial expression changed, anticipating lunch maybe?
Luna returns, wow seeing her fly in! Can it get any better? Sol watches her atop the perch and I melt.
Egg was visible, Sol is sturdy and probably hungry. Unsure if she has prey, but imagine she would.

As Luna scratches her head, Sol preens her face feathers.
Once again, panning is giving an amazing view.
Luna is Sol’s provider and defender. For a nest box, a frog from a stream. Sprigs of laurel and an olive branch, for a country so nobly defended.

Owlet began to chatter the beak. Too cute.

Practicing wing flaps as Luna sits close by, she picked up the pile of fluffy feathers and sat it next to Sol. Brilliant sun shining on Sol, reminiscent of Luna.
Sol is 24 days old today. Egg still there, 55 days.

A fantastic morning, once again in the nest box.
Quiet, resting, both of them. Chilly, Luna tucked Sol under her chest feathers as soon as owlet began to chatter, instantly got quiet, Luna knows what to do!
Currently, 53° heading for 79°. Chance of showers later in the day.
Warmer day, Luna may allow more space between them today.
Nights are getting warmer, starting to stay in the 50’s.

Meanwhile, any actions would have consequences, beyond what I could have imagined.
Currently, Sol is peaking out, into the night sky. Luna covers Sol with her wing, I’m calling it a night.
This one is for you, enjoy.
We all have been closely following Sol’s leg condition and consulted with the medical staff at Tri-State Bird Rescue. The consensus assessment is that Sol’s condition is such that medical intervention in this case has a low probability for improving the prognosis for Sol to have full use of the leg. Furthermore, an attempt to retrieve Sol for examination and possible treatment could result in injury to the parents and sibling owlet. Also, the physical handling and stresses associated with retrieval, transportation, and examination could further worsen Sol’s condition. Overall, the conclusion was that Sol’s best option was to be left alone with hope for natural improvement.

I imagine at this stage of Sol’s life, learning to rest during the day and conserve energy is greatly important.

Temp at 57° heading for 69°, low tonight of 48°. A snuggle night once again tonight. Chance of rain.
Luna’s pretty feathers dominate the view, Sol is not in view, nor the egg.
Sol is 23 days old today, the egg 54 days.

The eager embrace of the NY Barred Owls continue, with wholehearted support and an ongoing sense of wonder.
Cams serve well for research and behavior studies. We viewers are given a great privilege to watch along, to document events, photos and activities. We have a great opportunity to observe and learn how the owls handle the situation, then we see what develops next!

Andrew, once again, I appreciate the privilege you and your wife have accorded us by opening up this glorious view of the natural world. We not only have an unparalleled opportunity to observe and learn about this particular species of owls but to follow an individual Barred Owl family in a lovely natural setting.
To all of our friends who have joined us to follow Luna, Noche and Sol. When my wife, close friends and I decided to start this project it was because we all have a deep appreciation of nature and more specifically owls. We desired to see what most can’t by observing these owls without disturbing them. Thankfully with technology we can and we have chosen to share it with the world. Unfortunately this view is not censored and there aren’t any scripts. This is nature at its best and at its worst. We knew starting out that we may have to face situations that are less than ideal and that we may be forced to make some tough decisions. Sometimes the hardest decisions to make are choosing not to do anything at all. It appears that Sol may have an issue with his/her leg and please trust me when I say we are weighing in all options. I will allow someone who is an expert to make the final decision, so please be patient for that announcement. As for the “censorship” as some have called it, it was in the best interest of the owls. Many comments were being thrown about that were less than constructive. I hope you can understand where we are coming from and forgive the decision to close social stream for a while. We are all concerned and are looking for the best outcome for this situation. Sol is growing bigger and stronger by the day and does not appear to be in distress. We have all invested a lot of time into watching and caring deeply for these owls. This can make it tough to watch at times but please respect any forthcoming decision and know it was made with much consideration and in the best interest of the owls.
