1. A sunny Sunday, feeding, cozy inside. LG
   Sol is upright, not standing yet, come on little one.
   Feisty owlet, letting Luna know appetizer didn’t cut it.

   

2. Just too endearing not to show another capture of Luna and her Owlet after they both settle back down following a bit of midnight preening by little one. Luna woke up briefly and then was back to dreamland once Owlet had finished.

   

3. And all is well.

   

4. Luna returned around 12:03 A.M. with prey and began feeding Owlet.

   

5. Turns, moves toward egg.

   

6. Then Owlet begins to move around, appears to be aware of its freedom. Stretches the wings. Personally haven’t seen this behavior yet.

   

7. At first owlet just takes the situation in calmly.

   

8. Luna left around 11:43 P.M. and returned with indeterminate prey at 12:03 P.M. Posting a sequence of images of Owlet on its own and finally a feeding after Luna’s return.

   

9. Beautiful Luna, Sol is not visible n I am calling it a night, lol, for now.

   

10. Beautious Day in Wappinger’s Falls NY. Come to think of it, an uncloudy day in the Delmarva area, after a soaker of a day yesterday.

    Heading outside, taking the mini, interesting to see and hear how the yard birds react to Luna and Sol’s callings.

    Luna’s head jerked quickly as she hears mechanical beasts outside.
    Bluejays were nearby and mighty Sol chattered the beak, then bid a hasty retreat under Luna’s chest feathers. Too cute.

12. Sara, This one’s for you. As long as I’ve been watching, only once before, saw her feather lashes. After you added a photo and mentioned it, paying attention to her eye movements, I was able to capture this photo. Thanks so much.

    

13. Off air since 8:30ish a.m.

    Good Luck! I walk away smiling looking at Sol’s face.

14. As with most birds of prey, female Barred Owls are larger than males. Females weigh between 1.75 – 2.5 lbs. Males weigh between 1.3 and 1.8 lbs. Their wingspan is about 38-42 inches.

    Sol’s got to be weighing in at several ounces now, with a wingspan about the size of a human’s pointer finger.

15. On track:

    Males do all the hunting while the female is on eggs (about 30 days) and probably most of the hunting during the first 2 weeks after the young hatch. As the young get larger and more demanding, the female will join in the hunting.

16. Sol. For the first time is showered by rain. They really stay close to the entrance. Like a deep tree cavity.

    Of all times not to be tucked in, but it will feel good to be freshened up. Sunrise should be fun.

    

17. And, then, utter contentment.

20. Shelter in a storm. They still prefer water beads rather than moving back from the entrance way.

23. Like the tall trees that surround your home, you have a name, it is Sol.

    

24. Trying to get the feather eyelids. I had to hurry so pic is very small.

    

25. Same photo, cropped it a bit to try to get a closer look into those eyes. Feathers are coming in also. Freckle face is going away.
