  1. On that Happy Note, I will be watching with one eye, listening for chirps and let’s hope for a hatch today!

  2. Fairy taking care of the nest tree and the owls.

Soft steady rain today. Luna has water beads on her head and face.

  3. For the record, the image says Screen Shot 2014-04-30 at 5.37.06AM.
    LOL How about that weather?

  4. Nice morning light contrast as Luna returned from her short visit with Noche. One cam may have been lagging a bit behind in the time, since I originally wrote her return as 5:36am.

As much as she protects and adores the eggs with such devotion, it is when she hears the calls of Noche and rises to receive food and/or flight that she is most excited. She’s energetic and peppy as ever at the thought of food, flight and her mate.

Does she miss the moon and stars? Is it a thrill to glide through the trees, perched and ready to pounce on prey? Is this when she feels most alive and free, or is it something simply automatic without much thought at all? Does she prefer sleeping upright in a nice tall tree without walls? I wondered this, as they called to each other from tree to tree early this morning.

She flew atop the nest’s balcony and glanced inside with the familiar look of urgency and then relief that the eggs are safe. Everything begins to slow down, she carefully reenters into the nest and immediately begins to settle atop her eggs. She shimmies, glances around and appears to look as if she wouldn’t want to be anywhere else at that moment in time. hoot!!!

  5. Highlights so far, today was busy outside the nest box.

    4:25am she’s calling Noche

    raining pretty heavy

5:31am she left, no visible pips. listening for chirps. (Quiet)

5:31-5:36am Luna left the nest box. cant see prey, but she’s eating inside after being gone.

no egg cracks, its a tiny feather on egg, photo may seem to look like a crack, but it started blowing.

5:34am hooting to each other, while they were both outside.

Luna returned, was staring out, not settled, she grunted.

    Food for thought…
The owl sounds link indicates the male has two different calls when bringing the female food. One is for an inside delivery, one is for an outside delivery. Could it be he called for her to come outside to receive prey?
They were close by and both outside hooting to each other.
First time I’d heard that, it was very interesting!

  6. Today, egg #1 is day 33 days and egg #2 is 30 days old.

    Come on out little one.

Yesterday, Luna was stomping her feet, holding the egg with her feet, rolling it with her beak. Seems she was trying to help.

Not seeing a pip. I believe once pip occurs she would keep it rolled to the top of the egg.

  7. 5:31-5:36am Luna was out. She returned, could hear Noche hooting in the distance and she appears to still be awaiting his arrival. They called back and forth a couple calls.

Although I couldn’t see, it looked like she swallowed prey.

I didn’t hear any chirping while she was away, I tried.

  8. Luna is resting, listening with beads of water on her head.

Dogs bark, are they running off the deer, show ’em your teeth!
good luck and enjoy, I will bbl

  9. Close up, hope its clear. He is awesome.

Think I hear hoots but Luna isnt responding yet.

  10. Well, after the change of routines, now its raining, will he attempt to do a food drop, it is 9:30pm … a somewhat regular time give or take a few minutes.

  11. Sara, Interesting you said that about him bringing food. The Owl Call link in older comments said just that. The males have two different food drop calls! One is for delivery to the inside of nest and one is outside.

Did he offer her rooftop dining and she wanted indoors? wowie

It is raining, I have heard chewing sounds when its quiet enough!

  12. 8:47:39om he flies in. 8:47pm he flies off. Appeared to drop off prey, off air but Luna was chewing…

    mysterioso…

  13. Noche stopped by just about 8pm. Luna flew out at 8:21-8:26pm.

Different routines tonight, just like the deer!
He has been doing a food drop 8:30 or 9:30 give or take a couple minutes… can’t say it is a full moon. It’s a new moon, luna nueva.

    Did she eat?

  14. Two questions:

Anyone else hear Luna’s blood curdling scream followed by other plaintive wails? Happened about 3/4 of an hour ago. Noche appeared at the door and then flew away with his offering. Maybe he just showed her so she would leave and get it. Then Luna went into a frenzy of activity and I lost the picture.

Do you think that tapping sound is the owlet pecking its way out?
