1. Another Fantastic Day inside the nest box!

   Posting a fav photo of the day. The bluejays were very close and very noisy. She was staring intently, chattering her beak.

   The light from the entrance way reflecting in her eye and alongside the nictitating membrane, gives the illusion of a blue sky. When in fact the outside light is the white.

   A quiet rest filled day, pleasant to watch. Nice to see the two adults together again this evening.

   

2. Noche visits and brings Luna another frog. Same as last night’s but didnt get a good photo. Leg is visible in her beak.

   The interaction between them was bonding and gentle once again.

   

3. 9:34pm Noche is near, hoots n coos, lovely sounds.

4. Luna leaves her box at 7:57pm. She comes back at 8:17pm. Two eggs still. Notice something dark on her left side….. maybe an insect. I did not notice it before she left … only after she came back.

   

5. Abt 8:00pm Luna flew outside and was gone about 14 minutes. She did not bring food inside the nest box. I did not hear hoots or cooing sounds. Suppose there’s a chance she flew off and found a meal on her own. Perhaps, just enjoyed a good stretch and fresh air.

   Still listening for Noche to bring her a hello and food drop.

6. Abt 8:00pm Luna flew outside and was gone about 14 minutes. She did not being food inside the nest box. I did not hear hoots or cooing sounds. Suppose there’s a chance she flew off and grabbed a bite on her own. Perhaps, just enjoyed a good stretch and fresh air.

   Still listening for Noche to bring her a hello and food drop.

7. 4:19pm The wren stops by again, didn’t last long at all this time.

   Tail is down and she’s not as fluffed, nice breeze blows the down in the nest. Amazing, she plucked those feathers out for nesting material.

8. Quiet day today, with the exception of the bluejays and wrens. Luna is resting, looks comfortable, seems more content today.

   She’s rolled the eggs earlier, what big feet she has. Powerful talons.
   Imagine they have no problems snatching up prey.

9. 1:37pm It appears now that the bluejays are pestering her. Once again they get close and Luna chatters her beak.

10. 10:56am She was really chattering away, the bluejays were back.
    11:11am All is quiet again and she rests. Saw both eggs, looking a-ok!

11. 8:27am Bluejays are close and Luna is chattering her beak, not happy at all when they seem to get too close. The jays frequent the nest area along with those little wrens who occasionally still stop by to harass her. Wondering, if the jays do the same, if in fact they know she is there or they are simply on their usual morning route.

    She isn’t phased, eyes closed again, lol.

12. 7:00am I peaked in an hour ago and currently she is still in the same position.

    Cam is on sound is up, keeping an ear out for Noche’s return with prey and a peak at those wonder filled eggs.

    7:20am still, quiet, she aces energy conservation.
    7:23 she stands, giving a good view of the two eggs, preens and settles, but she’s awake and listening.

    Abt 7:32am color cam came on. What striking eyes she has. If you look you can see the incoming light from the entrance way reflected in her eye. When IR cam was on, you could see that dot of light from it also.

    Weatherbug says it’s 38° in the nest area, predicted high of 62°, the warmest day of the week ahead.

    Shout out to Orville Todd Middle School, site of the areas weather station! I’m trusting the internet to be true.

13. 9:07pm She is back and immediately settles on the eggs. Nice shimmy.

14. Mike, spinny ball and the image was entered twice, sorry. Ustream, everything stuck for a bit. Please, feel free to delete the duplicate.

    Any thoughts on what type of frog that is? I need to get the field guides out, lol. Out-of-state ones at that.

15. Abt 8:36pm Noche arrives and enters the box, he brought a frog. Blue ball spinning and screen stuck as she(presumably) left the nest box.

    

16. Abt 7:28pm Loud hooting and I was out of the room. In a matter of seconds it stopped and I missed the live action. Luna is staring out intently.

    7:47pm She is still staring out the entrance and her pupils dilate quickly, she’s focusing outdoors.

    7:50pm She is still staring and focused outside, her head and neck are extending up and looking out. Then she closes her eyes and
    continues to peak out occasionally.

    That was extreme swiveling, rotating of her head. She’s got her eyes closed gain, looking quite relaxed now.

    Two egg visible last time she stood.
    Another fantastic day!

17. I think Noche is close more often then not. A few times I have heard what sounded like him outside of the box…..possibly on top or on the perch out of cam view. Sometimes, Luna will glance up and other times it seems as if she knows it is Noche. I have heard the familiar sound of the talons on the wood or a bill rub against the wood when Luna was completely still and quiet. Maybe Thursday or sooner, she will have another egg….. that is if she is going to have three. Guess we will have to wait and see.

18. Hi Fran,

    The (calls) didn’t cause any reaction in Luna. She was indifferent to it. Although, it still may have been just as you mentioned. She didn’t bat an eyelash, so to speak.

    This morning the male Noche entered the nest box with Luna and
    such sweet sounds. He was far off in the distance and it was operatic.
    What a duet. She reacts to him from some distance away, although how far is undetermined because we can’t see his location.

19. Hi Lynn,
    It may be possible that you heard the “cat-like scream” of the Barred Owl. It sounds nothing like the “Who cooks for you” or the ” Hoo-hoo,hoo-Waaahh” . And, when I say cat, I don’t mean a domestic feline. It is more like a cat from Africa. I have experienced it first hand and it is uncanny.

20. Shimmy, preen, shimmy, preen. Along with these activities she rotated her body a few times both days she laid her eggs.

    Fun to try to notice if she begins circling again in the nest, with shimmying and preening, will she have a third egg?!!!

21. The animal call, can’t ID it at all. dog, bird… it was unlike anything I’ve heard before.

22. She was preening and currently has a feather stuck on the end of her beak.

    11:03am in the distance there is an odd animal calling. Now crow sounds.

23. Nancy mentioned her daughter said Noche translated is Night. Luna is Moon. Night and Moon, Mysterioso! As we were commenting, this image of Luna is Live.

    

24. 7:53am sounds, tiny foot steps.. seems the wrens stopped by once again to express there discontent and announce they still want the box for themselves. lol

    Before Luna moved inside the nest box, the pair of wrens entered and completely rearranged her nest bowl area.

25. In all the excitement didn’t mention how it began.

    In the distance there was hooting. Then sounds from atop the nest box.
    This was as the female was softly cooing. She knew he was near.

    At this point he was no longer hooting, he entered the nest box.
    The interaction between the two was very touching.
