  1. Minutes later, second attempt for a taker of the mole/shrew, neither owlet appeared interested and once again, it was carried off.

  2. Interesting that. A bird. Wee hours of the morning, it was brought to the perch and not offered to the owlets, carried off.

Are the adults bringing food and flying off with it to encourage them to exit the box…?

  3. Mole/shrew carried in and neither owlet was interested, after no takers, it was taken out.

  4. Owlet eating frog, not enjoying it, same as Luna.

Read that as adults owls will tend to favor food fed to them as owlets and
surely seems Noche enjoys frogs and his Luna does not. Neither does his owlet.

  5. Beautiful barred silhouetted. Wet feathers from a rainy day, all four were together.

  6. Both adults visit, all four were in the nest box together. This photo makes 3 and the next photos will make 4.

  7. Still staring out, may be more hungry than curious.

Not a lot of food delivered today, one of the owlets had a frog.
Note to self to find a photo. Owlet made the same face as Luna eating a frog, not a favorite food at all.

  8. All four were together today inside the nest box, times are changing for them. The innocence and anticipation are amusing.

Currently, it’s dusk, as adult hoots one note calls the owlet stares out with wide eyes, most of the day into the evening.

  9. At about 2:48PM ‘bigs” makes it to perch for the second time today.
A lot more effort, was tired after achieving perch.

  10. As ‘smalls’ stares with wide eyes, hasn’t quite figured it out yet, but close, very close.

  11. Counted on fingers, twenty eight days… wondered as owlets jumped and latched the entrance with beaks and flaps, hard flaps… then owlet perched.

    A great day for “bigs’.

Nickname bigs n smalls for now.

  12. Healthy, strong, well fed. At day 28, they prepare for a new journey ahead of them. From 28-35 days is the normal fledge time.

When time permits me to, I will count back from 2015 and 2014 to get their days from hatch to fledge and post it.

  13. After a busy day of hopping, preening, testing the beak on the perch, eating, playing, digging, flapping, hopping and eating… the two rest.

  14. Speaking of a different cropping, owlet was either clearing the crop or making an attempt at giving a hoot.

  15. Cropped and enlarged photo from today.

Bumblebees and cam panning gets them looking at the same time.

  16. Last photo from the sequence. One of the first, but too stunning to not share it.
